Your First Visit

What to Expect

Your first Acupuncture treatment will last approximately 90 minutes. You will need to fill out a thorough health questionnaire. The first intake will be very extensive. The more information I have, the better I am able to treat you. This will include a detailed health history and physical exam. The health history will be very detailed, but if you don’t remember everything, that is fine. Questions will range from details about your symptoms to eating and sleeping habits, exercise and physical activities, emotional state–anything that will give us insight into your health.

Acupuncture also employs unique diagnostic tools in assessing patients including an analysis of your pulses and looking at your tongue–so it is recommended not to scrape your tongue before your appointment, but brushing your teeth is fine.

The actual treatment procedure itself will last approximately 30-45 minutes. During that time you will be left alone in the treatment room after the needles are inserted (I will be nearby) to allow time for them to do their work and for your body to adjust itself without outside distractions. All procedures will be explained to you before they are done. After the treatment, we will discuss what happens next and any recommendations for you to take with you to help yourself rebalance into optimum health.

Many acute conditions can be resolved in 2-4 sessions. Other times treatment becomes a process that takes time and commitment to resolve.

All regular treatments after the first one will last approximately 50-60 minutes.

All first time Massage Therapy appointments are regular length. The actual time on the table will vary depending on the complexity of your condition and how much evaluation needs to be done.
